senior days

our kona is heading into 9 years. he's getting into the aches and pains of old age. but he's doing it ever so jubilantly, still bouncing and jumping, but at a slower pace =). amazing how much he endures, he is such a sweet dog. we have been blessed in so many ways by his presence in our lives. he was our first foray into parenting, we loved every minute of every day with him.

last friday, he had to go in for dental surgery. we haven't been good about cleaning his teeth, so he had a mouthful, literally speaking, of rotten teeth. he had 12 teeth extracted and now has only 22 teeth left. he was on soft foods for a week and he was loving every minute of it too. we were giving him jerky treats rather than the milkbones he normally gets and boy oh boy, he was ready for them too =).

he has been super with asher as well. with asher getting so mobile, kona has been asher's playmat. crawling, pulling, sucking, mouthing, poking, prodding, and alot of other interesting things asher has been doing to kona...and kona has taken it all without a wimper. if it gets too much, he just calmly gets up and walks away, much to asher's chagrin and protests. just like a little brother, asher quickly follows and kona ends up moving from place to place to get away. after awhile i think kona secretly enjoys the pursuit, cuz i can see him giving asher a look, like come and get me.

i love my kona and i pray for many more wonderful days ahead. i promise to brush your teeth bubba =).
